Our Fighting Spirit
About Seishin Martial Arts
The name Seishin means spirit and the team’s motto is “The fighting spirit has no limits”. The name and motto are derived from the courage and ability of our players to break down barriers, overcome challenges and demonstrate constantly that their fighting spirit has no limits. Whether players are joining our Mainstream or Adaptive teams, they are all part of the Seishin family. Seishin Martial Arts truly is a club for all minds, bodies and abilities and welcomes players from ages five years old and above to the club.
In 2020 Seishin Martial Arts began when Lewis and Carla Willing combined their passion and experience in martial arts with their passion and experience in supporting people with disabilities and additional needs. The club started with just 16 students participating in an Adaptive Judo Beginners Programme for students with disabilities.
Since then, the support the club has received from the community and the talent and skills we have seen in students means that the club now provides over 25 hours of Judo a week to players of all abilities. Seishin Martial Arts is the second-largest Judo Club in Tasmania and one of the largest No Limits Judo teams in Australia with over 70 percent of its players having a disability or additional needs.
The clubs rapid growth has seen the addition of mainstream classes to the timetable in 2021.
